My study program

In my opinion, psychology should have practical courses right off the start because in the beginning we have too many theoretical ones. In the first year the study program has introductory courses for social sciences, like philosophy, anthropology, sociology, epistemology, among others. Therefore, first year psychology students don’t get to know about their professional field, so they get discouraged and unmotivated. Only when students undergo their fourth year they are able to approach psychology’s professional field because courses this year increase their specificity. At this point the student must decide what kind of psychology they will choose to work in.       

From my perspective the workload and length of my career are adequate; I think that five years are necessary in order to become well-trained in psychology’s many applications. Our curriculum contains learning about educational psychology, organizational psychology, law psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology and neurosciences. It is fitting!

Well, the faculty facilities are being improved over time, but are still in need of further development so certain areas of study within psychology get an appropriate workplace to function. As an assistant of Neurophysiology and Cognitive Neurosciences I have seen the lack of laboratories and meeting rooms.

It is important to have to our disposition more and better computer because some courses (like statistics) require specific software programs.

The teachers, generally speaking, have a lot of knowledge, they are much trained. However, I think that the teachers need more training as educators. Classes need better teaching techniques and strategies; include diverse learning activities and better testing methods.
